I wanted to create a New Home card for my son who recently moved to a big city and purchased and condominium. The basic design of this card came from fellow demonstrator Martin Stone. I only changed up the colors slightly.
Since my son’s condominium is on the third and fourth floors, I wanted to feature the taller of the houses that are found in the Coming Home stamp set. This stamp set has been retired for a couple of years but it is the perfect set to use for this masking technique. Hopefully, you purchased one of the sets while it was available. If my memory serves me correctly, some of the proceeds from this particular stamp set went to help families who were adopting or having trouble having a family.
In case you are new to masking or just want to know how I colored the houses in the card, you can take a peak at the short YouTube tutorial I made. You can view it here. While you are on my YouTube channel, don’t forget to subscribe to see more content.
Stampin’ Up!’s new masking paper works well and is a nice change from having to use super sticky Post-It notes. SU’s masking paper comes in a pack of 5 x 7 while super sticky notes only come in small sizes. Whenever you need a larger mask, the masking paper will really come in handy.
Stampin’ Blends are one of my favorite coloring tools (if not my favorite). I love how easily they blend without creating pen lines. You can create beautiful shading with these alcohol markers. They come in sets of two with one lighter shade and one darker shade. If you don’t own any of these remarkable markers, you should start you collection now. You can find these markers and other wonderful products on my online store: https://CreativeTreehouse.stampinup.net
The dimensions of this new home card are as follows:
Card Base: Balmy Blue 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 (scored at 4 1/4), Granny Apple Green- 5 5/16 x 4 1/16, Basic White- 5 3/16 x 3 15/16. The strip of Granny Apple Green under the sentiment is cut at 5/16 x 3 inches.
‘Well Said’ is the stamp set that contains the ‘Congratulation’ sentiment. It is also retired but many people have it in their stash as it is full of useful sentiments. The dies from the Stylish Shapes work well with the sentiments from this stamp set. I’m happy to report that the Stylish Shapes dies are new. So, hopefully they will be around for quite some time.
This was such a fun card to create. I can’t wait to pop it in the mail to my son tomorrow. He not only has a new home, but he also has a new job. Come to think of it, I guess I’ll have to make another congratulations card to commemorate his new job as well. There have been lots of “new” this summer for my family.
Let me know in the comments if you like this card and whether or not you have used the new masking paper. I would love to hear from you and see some of the projects you have been inspired to create. Until next time, thanks for stopping by the Creative Treehouse!
