the background story
The Fitting Florets bundle is fast becoming one of my favorites. This card was the second card I made with the bundle. I love the sophisticated simplicity of the various elements in the card. Currently, the Fitting Florets bundle is a preorder item. From my experience so far, I highly recommend adding the Fitting Florets to your stash so you can make sophisticated cards.
I don’t send cards out as often as I should. Occasionaly, I find that time is of the essence. For the reciepent of this card, that is the case. The story behind the need for this card is sad and really tugged at my heart. I designed the Fitting Florets sophisticated card for a college friend who has been battling cancer for the last 12 years. My friend was recently told that after enduring countless treatments and even an amputation, there is nothing left for the doctors to do. Because the doctors have exhausted all the resources, they have sent her home and called in hospice.
My friends attitude through it all has been exemplary. She has trusted the Lord through every turn and every new diagnosis. Her family has been by her side and they have celebrated together all the blessings along the way – like marriages and births. I added a long letter to the card trying to offer encouragement as she faces her last days here one earth before she moves to her forever home with her Savior. What exactly do you say to someone your age who is dying? I wanted her to know that I had followed her journey and found her attitude and faith to be amazing. She has definitely made a difference in the lives of many people. She is beautiful inside and out.
Card Details
For this card, I went with blues because blue is our sorority color. (I met this sweet friend through our sorority). I stamped the flowers and the butterfly in Memento Tuxedo Black then used a water painter and blender pen to color the images. The flowers are from the amazing Fitting Florets bundle. The butterfly boasts from the Butterfly Brilliance set. I love to color with any of the wonderful Stampin’ Up! products. Feel free to check out other coloring projects on my blog.
The card base is Pacific Point and the smaller panel is Basic White. The Basic White is embossed with the retired Tasteful Textures 3D embossing folder then die cut with one of the dies from the Fitting Florets bundle. I like the way the Pacific Point pops from behind the hearts. Being a huge fan of hearts, I love this particular die.
For some sparkle, I added Wink of Stella to the flowers and butterfly. To give the sentiment some shimmer, I stamped in Versamark then Pacific Point and sprinkled it with clear embossing powder. After heat setting the embossing powder, the sentiment appears as a shiny blue.

Dimensional add some dimension (fancy that) to both the flowers and the butterfly. I also added another butterfly to the center of the card. The second butterfly for the center, was glued to the upper left corner of a piece of Basic White.
I do not have a tutorial on this card as the only “tricky” part is the coloring. If you request a tutorial for this Fitting Florets sophisticated card, I will be happy to make one for you and post it to my YouTube channel. Just let me know.
