Our family loves lightning bugs so when I saw the Light Your Way bundle in the Mini Catalog, it was on the top of my wish list. My daughter has lovingly referred to these little bugs as “tree glitter”. We love to watch these little guys twinkling in the meadow or in the trees.
One year we even had the opportunity to see the special synchronized lightning bug show near Gatlinburg, TN. There is a particular species of lightning bug that actually light up at the same time. Interestingly, there are only a few of these groups that exist in the entire world. We had to purchase tickets in advance, be bussed to a special spot, walk carefully through the woods, then stand there completely captivated by the amazing display.
So, now you have a little background as to why we like lightning bugs and why I wanted this particular stamp and die set. It took me a couple of months to get the set out to use. When I saw a fellow demonstrator (Vy Tran) use this set, I knew that I wanted to CASE her idea. I think that this set would be great in other fun fold projects. You can check out some other fun fold cards that I have created here.
How I Created the Card
I wanted to try to replicate the “tree glitter” idea so I used lots of greenery on the front of the card. The top branches are from the Willow die set. I uses sponge daubers to make the Soft Succulent pieces a little darker and also add some dimension.
The bottom ‘bushes’ are also dies from the Willow set. I used sponge daubers on them as well in addition to stamping them with a stamp from Eden’s Garden . That stamp gave it the feel of leaves and branches.
A window pop out card seemed like a great use of the Lighting the Way bundle. You can watch my YouTube video here, if you aren’t familiar with that type of card. In the video, I walk you through the basic steps to creating this card. It took my forever to create the original card. But don’t worry, in the video I don’t spend time fussy cutting the bugs or other time consuming activities.
Obviously, I used quite a few products to create the card. The showstopper is the Lighting the Way bundle. Other materials that I used which add that extra pizzaz, include gold embossing as well as wink of stella. I used vellum for the lantern and the larger lightning bugs wings. Speaking of the larger lightning bug, I love that it has 3 different dies. You end up building your own bug by layering the different pieces.
Measurements and Products
The measurements for the card base are as follows:
-Night of Navy Card base: 8 1/2 x 11 inches scored at 4 1/4
-the accordion fold (Night of Navy): 6 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches scored at 2 inches and 4 inches
-Hinges (Night of Navy): 3 x 3/4 scored at 1 1/2 inches
Below you’ll find a complete list of products that I used to create this fun Lighting the Way pop out card. I tend to do overboard on many of my card designs. Keeping it simple doesn’t seem to work for me. Hopefully, you enjoyed taking a peek at my latest creation. Please consider following me on social media.
