This month’s color challenge
I love this month’s color combination. After pulling out all the coordinating ink pads, I decided to browse through my stamps to see what set seemed to fit with those colors. When I saw the hummingbird in the Thoughtful Expressions stamp set, I knew I had found the stamp set I wanted to use. Since I had just received this stamp set with my recent order, it seemed like a great excuse to try it out.
My take on the color challenge
Humming birds are so tiny but they have such vibrant colors. I decided to color my hummingbird with Orchid Oasis and Parakeet Party. To color him, I primarily used a blending pen and dipped it into the lid of the ink pad. The Stampin’ Write markers came in handy with adding some darker shading. Although I usually see Ruby-throated hummingbirds at my house, I used Fresh Freesia to color his throat.
To color the flowers, I used both blender pens and Stampin’ Blends. The larger flowers were colored with Fresh Freesia with Lemon Lolly centers. I used just a hint of Calypso Coral around the flower centers. If you look at the small flowers, you’ll see where I used Calypso Coral the most.
I used Parakeet Party for all of the small leaves. Then I cheated (uh oh) and used Mossy Meadow for the larger leaves just to get a good contrast between leaf types. Maybe I should have tried mixing Lemon Lolly with Orchid Oasis to see if it made a green color. I’m guessing it wouldn’t have worked. LOL
After coloring everything (I do love to color), I die cut all the stamped images and adhered everything to a piece of Basic White. I was able to add Bubble Bath ink to the white cardstock with a blending brush. Next, I matted that piece onto a Basic Black mat with only a 1/16 inch border. The main mat is actually the card base which is Orchid Oasis.
