Country Birdhouse

The Country Birdhouse bundle caught my eye when I looked through the new catalog. I love birdhouses. My front porch has several decorative birdhouses adorning a table and a baker’s rack. In my backyard there is a bluebird house that my husband made. Each year a bluebird couple make their nest in the house. You might be able to tell from the card that bluebirds are one of my very favorite birds.

Although there is a birdhouse stamp in the set, I just used the dies to make the birdhouse for this card. the Country Birdhouse bundle is new and can be found in the 2024-2025 Annual Catalog. Being a demonstrator allowed me a chance to purchase this set before the catalog officially went live. Sometime I’ll have to tell you more about the perks of being a demonstrator. For now, let’s dive into how I made the card.

Boho Blue, Misty Moonlight and Petal Pink are the cardstock colors that I used to create the birdhouse. To create the woodgrain look on the Boho Blue pieces, I ran the paper through the Stamp Cut and Emboss machine with the Stripes and Splatters 3D embossing folder. If you don’t already own this set of embossing folders, you should grab it before they retire. Those folders will retire at the end of this month (April 2024).

Products used

Speaking of retiring products, the main part of the birdhouse was made from a piece of retiring DSP. The Country Lane DSP was one of the most popular packs from the Annual Catalog. Hopefully, you have at least one pack of this wonderful paper. Did you know that Stampin’ Up! is making a special release of that DSP but in pink? The special release is for demonstrators to earn in the month of April. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out whether I will earn that special pack of pink DSP.

A few more details

The extra ring around the hole in the birdhouse isn’t part of the die set. I created the ring by using the smallest Stylish Shapes circle die. After cutting out the circle die, I placed the die for the birdhouse hole carefully in the center of the circle die and ran it through the machine. Don’t you think it adds a nice touch to the birdhouse?

Another addition would be the two thin layers of Petal Pink and Misty Moonlight that I added on top of the Boho Blue piece at the bottom of the birdhouse. After stamping the bird in Momento ink, I colored him with Stampin’ Blends. With a Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker, I colored the birds beak and feet.

The Background

Using the largest water painter, I gave the piece of Basic White a wash with Boho Blue ink. For the “trees”, I used the three dies from the Around the Bend dies for leaves. Finally, I matted the Basic White piece onto Night of Navy followed by Petal Pink. With the exception of a few bits and pieces, this would be a good card to replicate (CASE). I’m looking forward to making more cards using this fun Country Birdhouse set.
