Changing Leaves Color Challenge

Are you a fan of fall with the leaves changing color? I certainly am! Fall is my favorite time of year and I love making cards with colorful leaves. Today’s card was created for the Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop. Each month we are presented with a challenge. This month we could choose to be inspired by the colors, the image or a combination of both. Below you will find the challenge we were presented with. The image for the challenge is definitely Christmas themed. However, I decided to not get ahead of myself.

Since I wasn’t quite ready for Christmas, I decided to use the colors from the challenge as my inspiration. Surprisingly, I was able to incorporate all six of the colors. Being surrounded by the changing leaves around our house, I decided to create a fall themed card using the Changing Leaves dies.

The deep Shaded Spruce color made a nice background for the fall leaves. I used the new So Swirly embossing folder to try and capture the feeling of falling leaves. To make the swirls pop a bit more, I added a touch of Shaded Spruce in with a sponge dauber.

For the leaves themselves, I cut out only the one leaf from the cluster on the die and cut out four of them. I used Very Vanilla for my leaves. Then, with Blending Brushes, I applied Real Read, Pumpkin Pie, and Daffodil to the leaves. After brushing on the ink, I spritz each leaf with water including a few bigger water droplets. Finally, I flicked some Shaded Spruce dots onto the leaves using a Stampin’ Write marker.

Adding some Balmy Blue color proved to be challenging. At first, I tried matting the card with Balmy Blue or even making the base of the card Balmy Blue. Eventually, I settled on just using Balmy Blue for the sentiment which gives it a soft look but one that still stands out. I used Early Espresso ink for the sentiment. The sentiment comes from the Changing Leaves bundle along with the circle die.

The lacy-looking leaves were cut out of Early Espresso using another die from the Changing Leaves bundle. I also used Early Espresso for the mat under the embossed piece. To adhere all the leaves, I used Dimensionals and liquid glue. Before adhering the larger leaves, I crinkled the leaves up to give them more dimension.

The Inside

On the inside of the card, I added the fourth leaf. Then, I used the Early Espresso marker to flick splatters on both the leaf and the corner of the card. Have you tried the flicking technique? It is really kind of fun. An Early Espresso mat outlines the Basic Beige piece as ties the front of the card to the inside.
