Floral Birthday Card

A floral birthday card will always be a “go to” for me. I always need birthday cards to have on hand and you can’t go wrong with flowers. This particular card was designed for the Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop. I was inspired by both the colors and the photo. The flower in the inspiration piece is so pretty! I tried to imitate the flower as best as could. Below you will find the photo for our inspiration.

And below you’ll find my take on the photo and colors. I was able to use five of the six colors. For the first time, I pulled out the Linked Together bundle to try it out. The bundle is fabulous as it has dies, stamps, and decorative masks. In designing my card I almost used all three components. However, in the end I only used the dies and the stamps.

Don’t you just love the lattice-look one of the dies creates? It seemed like the perfect background to a few flowers modeled after the inspiration photo. In order to mimic the flowers, I used a Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write marker to color the very outside edges of the flowers. For the petals themselves, I started with Berry Burst ink dipping it into the inkpad with a Blending Pen. After that, I used Fresh Freesia just on the tips of the petals. Overall, I think my flowers look quite a bit like the inspiration flowers.

Let’s Talk Sentiments

The sentiments are part of the Linked Together stamp set. The ‘wishing you’ sentiment was stamped in Momento ink onto Fresh Freesia cardstock. After stamping the sentiment, I used a sponge dauber to soften up the edges of the cardstock with Fresh Freesia ink. I then chose Berry Burst ink to stamp the ‘a happy day’ sentiment onto Basic White cardstock. To give this sentiment a softer, less bold look, I cut around the letters with my snips.

The centers of the little flowers aren’t part of the Linked Together die set. Instead, I used a tiny stamp from the Delightful Wishes stamp set. I achieved a tone on tone look by stamping the flower centers with Crushed Curry ink onto Crushed Curry cardstock. Using a standard hole punch, I punched out the flower centers and adhered them to the little flowers.

I thought having the Blackberry Bliss mat helps the little flowers pop. Behind the Blackberry Bliss mat, you’ll find the Berry Burst card base. Growing up the lattice, you’ll find three vines in Garden Green. The only color that didn’t make it into my floral birthday card was Cherry Cobbler. But, I think 5 out of 6 isn’t bad at all.
