Masculine Valentine Card

Coming up with a masculine valentine card can be tricky. As a general rule, guys don’t care for flowers, the color pink, stuffed animals, or other gifts that girls like. So, I usually spend several hours trying to come up with a good masculine valentine card each year.

For the past three years I have hosted a Couples, Cards, and Candlelight event where the guys make a card for their spouse and the girls make a card for their spouse. When I designed the card that the girls were to make for the guys, I knew that I wanted it to be interactive. With a slider card in mind, I started piecing bits together and the spinner robot card was the end result.

The INside

Often times, I overlook the inside of the card. But this time, I came up with a cute design to go along with the front of the card. Many of the products that I used are retired. However, combining so many of them together seemed to work out well.

The inside sentiment and the outside embossing folder are both current products (as I am writing this). But the dies, the heart punch, and the robot stamp are all retired products. Do you hang onto your retired products?

The mechanism

Typically slider cards use pennies as the mechanism for the slider. Since pennies are no longer being made, I searched for an alternative. On YouTube I found someone who used a plastic bobbin for the mechanism. If you need a replacement for pennies, I highly recommend a plastic bobbin. The only drawback to the bobbin versus the pennies is that the bobbin is a lot thicker. Since we were hand delivering our valentines, the bulkiness didn’t matter. I’m not sure how the bobbin would fair in the mail. If you try it, let me know.

Not only does the robot slide back and forth, but he also spins around. By moving the card around, the robot will both move and spin. Here is link to a quick video where you can see it in action.
