Simple Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards aren’t my favorite card to create. However, this simple sympathy card is quick and easy to make. The Designer Series Paper does most of the heavy lifting for you.

For this sympathy card I chose the Thoughtful Journey 6 x 6 DSP. If you are like me, you hate to cut up pretty DSP and waste large pieces of it. The design of this card helps you use the DSP to it’s fullest. By making several panels, you can use the entire width of the paper – all 6 inches. As far as wasted paper, you only trim 7/8 of an inch off the top or the bottom (or in my case, a little from both the top and the bottom to equal 7/8″).

In the January through April 2026 Mini Catalog there is a stamp set that has wonderful sentiments that are perfect for a sympathy card. The fonts are elegant and timeless. For my simple sympathy card, I stamped the sentiment in Mossy Meadow as it coordinated with the mats that I chose.

Little extras

For some simple extras (if you know me, you know I can’t leave anything too simple), I added side panels that I embossed with the Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder. The folder is retiring. So, if you don’t already own it, I would grab it before it’s gone. The Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder is one of my “go to” folders.

In order to accommodate note writing, I spruced up the back of the card. By using the same embossed panels as found on the front. This element ties the front and the back together while subtly elevating the back of the card. I used a stamp from Greenery Lane stamp set on the back panel.

Many of the papers in the Thoughtful Journey DSP can be used in a similar way. On my YouTube LIVE the viewers got to pick the paper from the pack that they wanted to create with. Card base: 5-1/2 x 10-3/8 scored at 1-7/8, 3-1/2, 6-7/8, and 8-1/2
Mossy Meadow mats: 1-5/8 x 5-1/4 (cut 2), 3-1/8 x 5-1/4 (cut 2 – front/back)
Soft Seafoam (embossed): 1-3/8 x 5-1/4 (cut 2 – 2 for front and 2 for back)
Soft Seafoam (for writing on back): 3-5-1/8
DSP: 6 inches wide by 5-1/8 tall. (trim off 7/8 inch off top or bottom or combo), then cut off 1-1/2 strips off of right and left sides (leaving 3 total panels).
