Under His Care

For the past several months, I’ve been immersed in a project that I thought might streach my creativity. Indeed, I was stretched! But almost every day I giggled in delight with some new detail in the project. My hope was to create an envelope book, teach a class on it, and also incorporate a Bible study into it.

Slowly, the project came to fruition. By the middle of May, Under His Care: A Creative Journey Through Psalm 23 became a reality. The envelope book features the adorable Wooly Friends bundle. Each page illustrates a different verse from Psalm 23. With a combination of cardstock, dies, sponge daubers, die cuts, Blending Brushes, each verse comes alive in a unique way.

One of my favorite parts of this project was finding creative ways to tell the story visually. From green pastures with still waters to the valley of the shadow of death, each spread was designed to reflect the message of the verse. I even included a special interactive page for “He restores my soul” that transforms an upside-down (cast) sheep into a happy, flourishing one—a reminder that our Good Shepherd lovingly restores us.

There are many hand cut paper pieces throughout the book. One of the most challenging verses to depict with paper is verse 4 about the valley of the shadow of death. With all the unique paper pieces, a class participants described the book as “paper being turned into art”.
