After purchasing the Hundred Acre Woods 3D embossing folder, the fun Designer Series paper and one of the coordinating bundles, I left them in the box. Finally, the day came when I decided to create something with these amazing products. For some reason I felt intimidated by theses products. I’m guessing it was because I thought they would be difficult to create with.
It turns out that they are not difficult to create with. In fact, they are tons of fun to play with. The first thing I did was to look through all of the Designer Series Paper (Silly Old Bear) and see what my choices were. I decided to cut out all the vignettes from the one piece of paper. Cutting them out is a breeze when you use the coordinating dies.
Once I had all the vignettes cut out, I decided on the one I wanted to focus on. With a friends birthday coming up, I chose the one with Pooh holding a package. Next up, I decided to make my card be a book binding card. Don’t you think that is so appropriate for a Winnie the Pooh card?
After deciding on the basic layout (book binding), I grabbed the Hundred Acre Woods 3D embossing folder. Looking at the coordinating colors from the Silly Old Bear DSP, I chose Mossy Meadow to use with the embossing folder. Knowing that there would be a few layers to this card, I went with two tone cardstock. If you have ever used two tone cardstock in a 3D embossing folder, you may have run into the problem I encountered. The white core can sometimes be seen when it is embossed. Because, the white was barely noticeable, I went with it anyway.
The little extras
If you know me, you know I can’t make a plain card. I always have to “dress” my card up. In this case, I used sponge daubers for the embossed piece, the sentiment, the thin DSP strip, and the vignetter itself. Sometimes, you may wonder if I sponge dauber my dogs. Not to worry, I haven’t ever tried a sponge dauber on my dog. Here is another card that I created where using a sponge dauber made a marked difference.
One interesting that I have for you has to do with the oval mat under the vignette. All the dies in the Sweet Words and Labels set were too big for the vignette I chose. After looking for other dies in my stash, I came up with an alternative plan. I used one of the Everyday Arches dies to create a mat.
How did I made an oval out of an arch that has a flat edge? Well, I partially cut the die out. Flipped the die around and ran it part way through the other direction. Usually, it is pretty easy to line up the die on the second pass by just moving the die across the paper until it sinks in to the previous cuts. If you haven’t ever tried this tip, I would recommend it. It actually opens up a whole new world of possibilities with the dies in your current stash.
Color changing
In my original card I used the Crumb Cake Baker’s Twine. But during the LIVE the viewers voted for Mossy Meadow twine. Stampin’ Up! only offers a pack of neutral colored twine. But did you know you can color not only twine but also ribbon with our Stampin’ Blends? I took the white baker’s twine and colored it using the Light Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blend. To change the color you will need to run the brush tip of the blend over the twine several times, turning the twine slightly for each pass. Knowing this fun technique will open up more possibilities for coordinating colors when creating a card.

The Inside scoop

For the inside, I used Mossy Meadow for the mat and Basic Beige for the main piece. Did you notice that I took the sponge dauber to the inside as well? A little Mossy Meadow around the edges of the Basic Beige helped to tie the front of the card to the inside. (and still no dogs were sponged daubered – ha ha). The cute honey jars were cut out of one of the pieces of DSP. Adding a small element of DSP looks great and also ties the inside of the card to the front.
