Fern and Flora Corner Fold

One of my favorite current bundles would have to be the Fern and Flora bundle. The coordinating Designer Series Paper -Moonlit Flora is breathtaking. Many of these products were so popular that they were often out of stock.

After I finally got my hands on all of the products, I decided to create a corner fold card. Whether a corner fold actually qualifies as a fun fold, I’m not exactly sure. Usually fun folds have multiple folds. In this case, one simple fold, when paired with gorgeous paper, can create an elegant look. It is also fun to be able to showcase both sides of the DSP. Maybe that is why it’s a “fun” fold?

For my card, I used the fold like a pocket. From the fold/pocket a bouquet of ferns and foliage seem to sprout. Using the sponge dauber, I added more depth to each piece. For the flowers, I stamped them in Mossy Meadow then used the water color pencils and blender pen to add color. By mixing colors, you can create the same look as the flowers in the DSP despite not having the exact colors available.

LIttle extras

Did you notice the embossing folder? There is a wonderful embossing folder that coordinates with the Fern and Flora bundle. But, I chose to use a brand new folder called Softly Woven 3D. The embossed Soft Seafoam paper created a nice soft texture that did not distract from the fern bouquet.

Three little gold embellishments add some soft bling to the card. I used the Gold Adhesive Backed Dots. These embellishments were just the right size. Having just the right amount of muted shiniest, these dots seemed perfect.

The Inside scoop

After using a sponge dauber and a blending brush to a piece of Basic White, I added one of the fern leaves. Before adhering the Basic White to the Soft Seafoam piece, I “dunked” all four edges into the Old Olive ink pad. This technique creates the illusion of a tiny mat behind the Basic White piece.

Another Angle

With this close up you can see the soft texture of the embossing folder. Another element that I forgot to mention is the tab or edge that I added to the corner fold. I used a piece of two tone card stock to create an edge or border to the top of the pocket. By adding this small piece it creates a nice distinction between the corner fold and the fern bouquet.

• Mossy Meadow card base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored at 4-1/4
• Soft Seafoam (embossed): 4-1/8 x 5-3/8
• Moonlit Flora DSP: 4 x 5-1/4
• Two Tone Mossy Meadow: 3/8 x 5 (then trimmed to fit)
• Mossy Meadow, Soft Seafoam and Old Olive pieces for the foliage and sentiment
