Dogwood Card

While creating an After Christmas Countdown, I needed to find something for the number 7. The new Detailed Dogwood stamp set from the Sale-a-bration Catalog fit the bill. Although the stamp in the set with the dogwood blossoms in full bloom seems more attractive, I was determined to use the dogwood stem with only buds to create a card. Dogwoods are beautiful in both the white and the pink variety.

For this particular card I used the “backside” of one of the Flight and Airy pieces of DSP that is also in the Sale-a-bration catalog. The “frontside” has wonderful birds on it but I was looking for a great background piece. I used some of the texture stamps from the Detailed Dogwood set to continue the vintage texture that the paper has.

I stamped the dogwood branch in Fresh Freesia. But, if I were to try it again, I would probably go with Berry Burst. To color the flowers, buds, and leaves I used a Blender pen along with Granny Apple Green, Pecan Pie, Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia, and Berry Burst inks. Coloring with ink and a blender pen is something I enjoy doing. You can find other cards where I used this technique here. Finally, the addition of some textured stamps completes the dogwood card.

The sentiment came from a retired set called Wisteria Wishes. My thought was to find a sentiment about blooming or something of the sort. To me, the buds represent hope and the start of something new. Since today is January 1st, a dogwood card full of buds is a great card to start the new year off.

Reflecting on the Dogwood buds

I hope that your new year is full of hope and promise. New Year’s resolutions are my thing. But, I do like reflecting on the good things from the previous year then looking forward to the possibilities that the new year holds. My word for the year is “celebrate”. I plan to celebrate the little things as well as the big things. My hope is that I will take time to notice things in the moment and celebrate them. Stopping to marvel and the good that is going on around me in the moment is what I want to do. Be present. Soak in the moment. And don’t forget to be filled with wonder and appreciation.f
