Barn Fun Fold Card

I just couldn’t resist trying out this design on a barn fun fold card using the Cutest Cows bundle. Opening up the barn doors to find the cows is just too fun! I used a window sheet that is secured under the “metal” roof as the front flap. When you open the front flap the fun fold mechanism allows the barn doors to open.

The original template that I found was for a 5 x 7 card. So, I worked for quite some time to figure out measurements that would allow the mechanism to work for an A2 card. Overall, I think I nailed it. However, you will need to trim pieces (especially the barn doors) depending on how your particular card lays out. It is easier to trim a larger piece than be stuck with a piece that is too small.

The Front of the card

Here is what the card looks like when it is closed. I used the Stripes 3D embossing folder to give the red pieces a wood-look. For my first attempt, I kept the Real Red cardstock plain (as is). Although I really like the wood-look of the final card, using the embossing folder makes paper soft which can lead to tearing.

I achieved the “metal” look on the roof by scoring the Smoky Slate piece at every quarter inch. After scoring, I folded each score mark and gently ran a sponge dauber with Smoky Slate ink over them. The window sheet will be adhered under the roof piece.

On the bottom of the window sheet I added a “bush” which is really a cloud from the Give It A Whirl die set. By cutting the cloud out of Granny Apple Green, it gives the illusion of a bush instead of a cloud. I also added the arrow die (from the same set) to the bush to help the recipient know how to open the card. There is a second bush glued to the underside hide the adhesive from the front bush.

The inside

For the inside of the barn fun fold card, I used a square piece of Basic White cardstock. With a blending brush, I colored the sky in Balmy Blue. A hand cut piece of Granny Apple Green is glued to the bottom for the grass. I stamped the grass blades in Mossy Meadow.

The cows and the sunflowers are stamped in Momento then colored with Stampin’ Blends. I was only able to use the Cow Builder punch for one of the cow heads as all the other parts needed to be cut with paper snips. Although, I tried different masking techniques, the sunflowers worked best stamped in Momento then cut out with the snips.

Barn sides (mechanism): 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 scored at 5/8 (see pdf or video for where to trim)
Barn doors: 3-5/8 x 2-1/4 (these measurements are slightly larger than what you will need)
White strips: 3/16 wide
Roof (Smoky Slate): 1-1/4 x 5-5/8 (scored at every 1/4)
Inside piece (Basic White): 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 (probably need to trim down before adhering)
