Flower Cart Card

The Flower Cart stamp set and dies have been on my wish list but further down. So, I just recently purchased them and have really enjoyed playing with them. There are so many choices with dies that cut out 20 different pieces. In addition the Flower Cart stamp set is great and includes beautifully scripted sentiments.

My original thought was to make this as a Mother’s Day card as the set does have a “Happy Mother’s Day” sentiment. But, personally, I wasn’t up for it as I lost my mom just last week (4 days before Mother’s Day). So, I opted for the more generic “Have a Lovely Day” sentiment. I like that the sentiment is more versatile.

Colors and extras

For this card, I used a Night of Navy card base, the new Basic Beige for the road, and Azure Afternoon for the background. Not surprisingly, I had to up the ante with many of the elements. You can watch my YouTube tutorial here to see all the little things I did to make the card pop even more. Apparently, I really enjoy adding little touches to make my paper projects come to life. Maybe it’s because I can’t leave well enough alone. (ha ha)

Initially, I tried inking up the flower and leaf stamps with Stampin’ Write markers. So, I could get a variety of different colors. However, I found the markers didn’t leave a strong enough mark even when using what I call the “Darth Vader technique”. Although much more time consuming, I ended up masking off the various leaves and flowers to use the ink pads themselves. The look is much stronger making the extra time taken worth it (at least to me).

An extra tip that you won’t find in the tutorial is cutting out a single flower or two to cover up the end of the canopy pole. Look carefully, and you will see an extra Berry Blossom flower that is glued to the top of the original flower bunch. Did I mention, it is the little things?

INside of the Flower Cart Card

For the inside of the Flower Cart card, I stamped the cobblestones in Crumb Cake. On top of the cobblestones, I added a singe pot with flowers. I decided to die cut the flowers and the pot after I stamped them. Optionally, you could just stamp them directly to the card if you wanted to. But, since the front of the card was full of die cuts and dimension, I thought my choice tied the two together well.
