Changing Leaves (in summer)

Leaves are beautiful to me whether they are green in the summer or changing leaves in the fall. The Changing Leaves bundle provides lots of opportunity to be creative. One of my favorite parts of the bundle is the hybrid embossing folder. Embossing folders are awesome in and of themselves. But when you can incorporate dies into the folder, the sky is the limit for your creativity.

This is the first card that I created using the Changing Leaves bundle. I’m quite certain it won’t be my last! Because my favorite SU colors are Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock, I decided to start my leaf “collecting” journey with those colors. Green leaves make me think of summer especially deep rich greens. Spring leaves are more yellow in color. Since Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock have blue hues to them, I decided this card would have to be a summertime card.

I embossed a 5-1/8″ x 3-7/8″ of Pool Party with the Changing Leaves embossing folder. On the embossed side (as opposed to the de-embossed side), I used a sponge dauber to add color to the leaves with Pool Party ink. The large leaf was die cut from Pool Party after stamping it in Pretty Peacock. I also used Pretty Peacock ink to stamp the sentiment onto a piece of Pool Party then cut it out with one of the dies from the set.

To me, coloring the leaf is the most important part of the process. I tried a variety of coloring techniques before I settled on this one. The Ins and Outs

You’ll notice that I added Lost Lagoon to the inside of the card as well with the stamped image. A piece of Pretty Peacock cut at 5-1/8 x 3-7/8 tucks under a piece of Basic Beige cut at 5 x 3-3/4 to form the inside of this Changing Leaves card. Did you notice the frayed edges on some of my cardstock? My trimmer blade needs to be replaced. Until I replace it, a great thing to use is a sand eraser. You can get the “fuzzies” off easily with that eraser. You can find a link to one on my favorites page here on my blog.
