Changing Leaves (in blues and golds)

I love the stunning contrast of the blues and golds in this Changing Leaves card. The Changing Leaves bundle includes the stamps and a hybrid embossing folder. For the card base, I chose Misty Moonlight. Then I used Misty Moonlight ink to stamp the leaves onto a piece of Night of Navy. If I had stamped in Night of Navy instead of Misty Moonlight, the ink would have been stronger. I prefer the softer background for this particular card.

Coloring the leaf

The wow factor comes when you color a piece of Very Vanilla that has been embossed with the Changing Leaves embossing folder. You probably thought that I used Daffodil Delight or Pumpkin Pie cardstock as the base. However, all the color comes from ink applied with blending brushes. When trying out different techniques for coloring this embossed image, I found the blending brushes muted the colors while sponge daubers brought out the veins and other details.

Although I primarily used the blending brushes, I did go back over some of the veins with a couple of Stampin’ Write markers. I chose Cajun Craze and Pumpkin Pie markers to carefully draw on top of the raised edges of the veins and outer edges of the leaves. Coloring is one of my favorite ways to spend my time. So, I colored a ton of leaves while having fun experimenting.

The Sentiment

To keep with the muted theme that surrounds the leaf, I chose to stamp the sentiment in Versa Mark and heat emboss it with black embossing powder. There is a great die that fits this sentiment from the bundle. But, I decided that the die pulled your attention away from the leaf. Instead, I chose the small banner die from the Stylish Shapes dies. You could also leave the sentiment plain without any die cutting.
