Combining the 3D Sunflower embossing folder and white craft ink creates the wow factor to your embossed sunflower cards. Last week, I used this great combo on my LIVE. The viewers picked Flirty Flamingo as the card base. After that, we worked with Night of Navy.
Since I had all the colors shown in the photo on hand for the LIVE, I later went ahead and made them all up. I was supposed to be cleaning up from my LIVE. But, I found myself “playing” with various options to make the cards pop even more.
Color Choices.
These are the two cards that we worked with on the LIVE. On my LIVEs the viewers get to pick out colors, sentiments, embellishments, etc. from a few choices. You can tell from these two cards that they had a choice of having a mat behind the embossed piece. Do you like it with the white mat or without?
From the photo you can also see the choices of what the sentiment was stamped on. Would you pick the sentiment on the Textures Notes die or the plain one with a mat? Almost all the choices provided each week on the LIVE lead to great results.
Several of the viewers thought some embellishments were in order. I didn’t have any embellishments with me in the studio. So, I added some later. One of my personal favorites is the little brass ladybug on the leaf of the Night of Navy card. Do you like the cards with the added embellishments?
Long Band behind the sentiment
While playing around with all the leftover pieces, I decided to emboss a band to go behind the sentiment. Somehow, I really felt that the band helped bring some needed balance to the card. Do you notice anything different about the two bands aside from the color? Look closely.
The Early Espresso band is adhered with the regular embossed side on the top. However, the Misty Moonlight band is adhered with the de-embossed side showing. Which one do you like better? I lean toward the de-embossed band. There are SO many choices and ways to change up these sunflower embossing cards!
Last but not least
Finally, I decide to make a band that was plain, no embossing. But it did seem a little too plain. So, I added three white gems to the left of the sentiment. So, do you agree that the sunflower embossed cards need a band of some kind under the sentiment? And do you prefer the plain band or the embossed band?
What about the insides?
With all the embossing on the front of the cards, I didn’t want to neglect the insides. During the LIVE, we came up with the embossed flower that you see on the top left. Originally, I just cut out one of the embossed sunflowers in Night of Navy. However, it looked too dark. So, I added the white craft ink which really helped. I even experimented with the mirrored look by using Night of Navy ink on Basic White cardstock. Honestly, it is much easier to slide the craft ink across the embossed sunflowers than it is to use regular water based inks.
The fabulous 3D Sunflower embossing folder is a stand alone product. Currently, it does not have a stamp set that or dies that coordinate with it. Some of the viewers suggested stamping a sunflower onto the inside of the card. As a result, I pulled out my Celebrate Sunflower stamp set that is retired and tried it out. Which do you like better: the stamped images on the inside or the embossed image?
In conclusion
Although I eventually did clean up from the LIVE, it did take me a couple of hours. Cleaning up and crafting can be related but usually they are diametrically opposed. LOL. I much prefer crafting to cleaning. And during this ‘cleaning’ session, I found myself having lots of fun experimenting with so many ways to create the sunflower embossing cards. I’m not sure if I could pick a favorite from the bunch. Can you?
