Sunflowers are one of my daughter’s favorite flowers. Since her birthday is today I thought I would combine the Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop Color Challenge with my need to make her a birthday card. Thank you for hopping over to the Creative Treehouse to see what I did for the challenge.
The challenge

My first thought was to do a fall card. I had a great idea. Unfortunately, I misplaced the die that I was going to use. (It is sad how many things “go missing” in my craft room. I’m a messy crafter). So, with that option out the window, I had to come up with a plan B.
When I pulled out all the inks in the color challenge, it made me think of sunflowers against the blue sky. One of my favorite things about fall, is the beautiful blue skies. So, I grabbed my Sunflower 3D embossing folder and started the creative process. My plan B was taking shape.

the Step by Step process
I chose the Crushed Curry as my base for the Sunflowers. Then I had the crazy idea to cut out the “sky” from between and around the flowers and leaves. I was going to try one of the blades accessories for the Take Your Pick tool. But, I ended up just using my snips. If I make the card again (and I think I will), I will try the special blades.
After cutting around all the flowers and leaves, I started adding color to the flowers using inks and sponge daubers. I managed to use all of the colors, minus Balmy Blue, on the flowers. Don’t you like the way the yellow really pops against the Balmy Blue sky?
Thinking that the Balmy Blue background was too plain by itself, I came up with a solution. Brushing some diluted Balmy Blue across the paper to give it more interest. After gluing the cut out flowers to the Balmy Blue, the main card panel was finished.
For the sentiment, I decided to use the Delightful Wishes bundle. I stamped “wishing” in Momento ink on Balmy Blue then die cut it out. The “you a happy birthday” was stamped in Cajun Craze onto Lemon Lolly cardstock and die cut out with the label die that comes in the bundle. Only the Lemon Lolly label is up on Dimensionals. All the other elements are glued down directly with Tombow Liquid Glue.
The inside

On the inside of the card I opted to emboss one edge, since we currently do not have a sunflower stamp. Then there is always the envelope to decorate. A little embossing on the envelope flap finished off the project nicely. I hope my daughter likes her birthday card.
The envelope too

There are always lots of inspiring ideas from the various Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop creators. I do hope you will visit them all. Right now you are on my page – Robin Broome in the US.
