Interlocking New Year’s Card

Welcoming in the new year should have a little flair. A plain card just doesn’t have enough pizzaz in my opinion. So, a fancy fun fold card was what I had in mind for this celebration. Introducing… my interlocking new year’s card.

Blues, especially dark blues are the colors I think of for new year’s. In addition, there should be some gold, silver, or other glittery color involved. So, I grabbed the True Blue Floral Designer Series paper that was the very first Product of the Month.

In designing this card, I played around with measurements until I found something that seemed to work. I wanted to make a New Year’s card for my LIVE on New Year’s day. Hoping it would all come together as planned, I cut out all the pieces and put it together for the first time on the LIVE. The viewers helped pick out whether to use gold or silver accents. Card Front

As you can see, the viewers decided to mix the gold and silver for both the front of the card and the inside. The word dies that I used are retired but all the other products that I used are current as of January 2026. The circle die is from the Spotlight on Nature dies. On the inside of the card I used the Alphabet A La Mode dies for the numbers. To create the “windows” I used the Textured Notes dies. A smaller die from that same set was used for the panels under the numbers.

Measurements

• Card base: Night of Navy 5- 1/2 x 8 scored at 4 and Night of Navy 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored at 4 and 1/2 (the 1/2 will be the tab to connect the two pieces together). Use the Textured Notes die to cut out the windows from the two center panels.
• Interlocking pieces: Night of Navy 4 x 8-1/2 scored at 1/2, 1, 3-1/2, and 6. Night of Navy 4 x 9 scored at 1/2, 3, 5-1/2, 8, 8-1/2. (the single 1/2 piece is a tab to connect the two pieces together).
• DSP to cover the four inside panels: 3-13/16 x 5-5/16. For two of the panels, use the Textured Notes die to cut out the window.
• DSP for the number panels (cut with smaller Textures Notes die): 4 pieces at approximately 2 x 3-1/2
• gold or silver foil: 1-1/8 x 2 (four pieces).
• For the front: DSP 3-13/16 x 5-5/16, night of navy for circle: approximately 3-1/2 x 3-1/2, and gold or silver for lettering.

I put tear and tape on the 1/2 sections of both ends of the interlocking piece. I then folded up the piece like a book and placed it inside the window of the outer piece and closed the back down onto the “little book” then the front or visa versa. Please see the LIVE replay for more instruction.
