Creating a Coastal Scene

Stretching my creativity is something I thoroughly enjoy doing. Last week for my LIVE we were creating a coastal scene with a sailboat. This week I wanted to use the lighthouse die from the Sunset Coastal bundle. My mind was envisioning placing the lighthouse on top of a rocky cliff overlooking the ocean (at sunset of course). Basically, I wanted to extend the rock in the die to one that would cover the bottom of a card base. Now it was time for creating a coastal scene.

To create a large cliff essentially out of thin air was the creative task I was up against. I like a good creative challenge. So, I set out make my vision a reality through paper. Apparently, “making a scene” is something I enjoy and people seem to respond favorably when I do. In real life (non-paper life), I’m fairly quiet and would be totally embarrassed to make a scene. But in the paper crafting world, making a scene is my jam.

Playing with different colors I landed on Basic Gray and Basic Black for the cliff colors. Although I liked that color combo better than the others, the cliff lacked something. The cliff looked flat. How could I make it come to life? I tried strategically crinkling up the paper. And after I added some Basic Gray with a sponge dauber the cliff burst into life. Setting it up on Dimensionals was the icing on the cake. My creative mission was a success.

The inside

For the inside of the card the viewers helped me chose the mat color. Together we chose Flirty Flamingo. The pretty light pink color ties back to the sunset on the front of the card. I used the smaller of the two boats and the smaller water stamp for the lefthand corner.
